Systeme.io and Kit solve overlapping problems, but they are built around different starting points. Systeme.io is designed as an all-in-one online business platform: funnels, email marketing, automation, courses, products, websites, and more live in the same account. Kit — formerly ConvertKit — is built more directly around creators who want to grow and monetize an email audience.
That difference matters more than a simple feature count. A creator building a lead magnet, funnel, course, and follow-up sequence may value systeme.io’s integrated workflow. A newsletter-first creator who wants a large free subscriber allowance, unlimited broadcasts, and creator-focused audience tools may find Kit more natural.
How we evaluated: Creator Tool Bench has hands-on experience using systeme.io for a checklist signup, PDF delivery, and multi-day nurture sequence. This Kit comparison is based on Kit’s current official pricing, feature pages, and help documentation rather than an equivalent hands-on Kit test. We therefore treat workflow observations about Kit as documentation-based, not measured performance results.

The biggest difference: all-in-one business platform vs email-first creator platform
The simplest way to understand the choice is to ask what your business is organized around.
Systeme.io is organized around a complete online-business workflow. Its official feature set includes sales funnels, email marketing, marketing automation, websites and blogs, online courses, affiliate management, booking calendars, CRM pipelines, communities, and product selling. The goal is to reduce the number of separate services you need.
Kit is organized more directly around the creator-audience relationship. Its Free plan emphasizes subscribers, broadcasts, forms, landing pages, tagging, segmentation, recommendations, and selling digital products or subscriptions. Paid plans add features such as visual automations and email sequences.
Neither model is automatically better. The useful question is: do you want email to be one part of a broader funnel system, or do you want email to be the center of the business?
Free plans: Kit gives you more subscriber headroom
Kit’s current Free plan supports up to 10,000 subscribers. It also includes unlimited forms and landing pages, unlimited email broadcasts, audience tagging and segmentation, digital products and subscriptions, and other creator-growth tools.
Systeme.io’s current Free plan supports up to 2,000 contacts, 3 sales funnels, 1 automation rule, 1 course, 1 blog, and 1 custom domain. Email sending is currently unlimited.
If the only number you compare is audience size, Kit’s free allowance is much larger. But audience size is not the only constraint that matters. Systeme.io gives a smaller contact allowance while bundling a wider range of business infrastructure into the free account.
For a deeper look at systeme.io’s plan limits, see Systeme.io Pricing Explained (2026).
Email marketing: Kit is built around the creator newsletter workflow
Kit’s core product identity is email marketing for creators. On its current Free plan, you can send unlimited broadcasts, create unlimited forms and landing pages, tag and segment subscribers, and use its newsletter feed and website features.
For a creator whose primary goal is to publish consistently, build an audience, and monetize that audience over time, this is a strong starting structure. The generous 10,000-subscriber free allowance also gives a newsletter-first business room to grow before subscriber count alone forces an upgrade.
Systeme.io also offers unlimited email sending and campaigns, but email lives inside a broader platform. Its strength is the connection between a subscriber and the rest of the workflow: funnels, products, courses, tags, and automation can all operate inside the same system.
If you are also considering a more traditional email platform, see our Systeme.io vs MailerLite and Systeme.io vs GetResponse comparisons.
Landing pages: both can capture leads, but the surrounding workflow differs
Kit currently includes unlimited landing pages and forms on its Free plan. Its official documentation says you can build standalone opt-in pages without a separate website and connect new subscribers directly to the rest of your email setup.
Systeme.io also builds landing pages, but it treats them as parts of sales funnels. A signup page can sit before a thank-you page, sales page, checkout, upsell, or course-access step. That structure is useful when your landing page is only the beginning of a larger customer journey.
So the question is not whether either tool can create a signup page — both can. The difference is what you want to happen after the signup.
Sales funnels: systeme.io has the clearer advantage
If your project requires a traditional sales funnel, systeme.io is the more directly purpose-built option. Its official funnel builder includes drag-and-drop pages, templates, A/B testing, order bumps, one-click upsells, and multiple funnel types.
Kit can absolutely support a funnel-like journey through landing pages, email, products, and automation. But its product is not structured around a dedicated all-in-one sales-funnel builder in the same way.
For a creator selling a course, coaching offer, or digital product, that difference can reduce setup complexity. You can move from opt-in to email follow-up to checkout to delivery without deciding which external funnel platform should connect to the email tool.
If funnel building is your main priority, our Best Free Sales Funnel Builder for Beginners guide goes deeper into that use case.
Automation: compare what you can do before you pay
Systeme.io’s Free plan currently includes 1 automation rule. The Startup plan raises that allowance, and higher plans increase capacity further. Its automations connect across funnels, tags, emails, purchases, courses, and other parts of the platform.
Kit’s Free plan is designed more around broadcasts and audience growth. According to Kit’s current Free-plan documentation, visual automations and the automation template library require a paid plan. Kit’s Creator plan adds unlimited Visual Automations and unlimited email sequences.
This creates an interesting trade-off. Kit gives you far more free subscriber capacity, while systeme.io gives you at least a small amount of built-in automation on the free tier.
If your first project is simply “publish a newsletter and grow a list,” Kit’s free structure may be enough for a long time. If your first project needs an automatic lead-magnet delivery or funnel action, systeme.io may let you test more of that workflow without upgrading.
What our systeme.io test actually showed
For Creator Tool Bench, we built a working systeme.io lead-magnet journey rather than only reading the feature list.
- A visitor entered an email address on an opt-in page.
- The contact appeared in systeme.io.
- A Day 0 welcome email arrived automatically.
- The email provided access to the promised PDF.
- The PDF opened correctly.
- The subscriber entered the follow-up nurture sequence.
We also confirmed later campaign emails from the same sequence. That does not prove every systeme.io feature is better than Kit, but it does give us direct evidence that the basic signup → delivery → nurture journey works in our own setup.
See the complete hands-on assessment in our Systeme.io Review (2026), or follow the setup in How to Deliver a Free PDF Automatically After Email Signup.
Courses and digital products
Systeme.io includes a built-in course platform. Its current Free plan includes one course, and the platform can connect course access directly to funnels and purchases.
Kit can also monetize an audience directly. Its Free plan includes digital products and subscriptions, and Kit’s commerce documentation says creators can sell products without connecting a separate ecommerce platform. Kit also promotes TeachKit as an online-course builder.
The distinction is again about the center of gravity. Systeme.io treats the course as one part of the same funnel-and-automation platform. Kit approaches selling from an email-and-creator-commerce perspective.
If you are trying to launch a first course with minimal fixed software cost, see How to Sell an Online Course Without Monthly Fees.
Commerce fees: check the total cost, not only the subscription
Systeme.io’s current pricing page lists a 0% systeme.io transaction fee. Payment processors can still charge their own fees, so this does not mean every transaction is free.
Kit’s help documentation currently states that selling in USD through Kit Commerce costs 3.5% + $0.30 per transaction. There is no separate monthly Commerce fee, and Commerce is available on the Free plan.
This means a low or zero monthly software bill does not automatically produce the lowest total cost. If you sell frequently, transaction fees can matter as much as the subscription price.
Paid plans: systeme.io starts lower, Kit gives more free audience capacity
As checked on October 1, 2026, systeme.io lists:
- Free: $0/month
- Startup: $17/month
- Webinar: $47/month
- Unlimited: $97/month
Kit currently lists:
- Free: $0/month for up to 10,000 subscribers
- Creator: $33/month at 1,000 subscribers
- Pro: $66/month at 1,000 subscribers
Kit’s paid price changes with subscriber count, so do not compare the $33 figure against systeme.io’s $17 Startup price without considering list size and the features you actually need.
A useful way to compare them is to price the first plan that supports your complete workflow, not merely the cheapest paid tier.
Choose systeme.io if your first project needs a complete funnel
Systeme.io is the more natural starting point when your first project looks like this:
- Landing page
- Email signup
- Automatic delivery of a lead magnet
- Nurture sequence
- Sales page or checkout
- Course or digital-product delivery
That is exactly the type of workflow we have tested on Creator Tool Bench. The value is not one isolated feature — it is keeping the whole journey in one system.
Choose Kit if your email audience is the business
Kit deserves serious consideration when your workflow is closer to:
- Publish a newsletter consistently
- Grow a large subscriber list
- Use forms and landing pages to capture subscribers
- Tag and segment the audience
- Recommend other creators
- Sell digital products or subscriptions directly to readers
The current free allowance of up to 10,000 subscribers is especially attractive if subscriber growth matters more to you than having a dedicated funnel and course stack from day one.
Which is easier for a beginner?
There is no single answer because “easy” depends on the job.
Systeme.io can feel simpler when the alternative is connecting four separate tools. One dashboard can handle the landing page, contact, email sequence, checkout, and course.
Kit can feel simpler when your business is fundamentally “grow an email list and publish to it.” In that case, you do not necessarily need the extra surface area of a larger all-in-one platform.
We would define beginner-friendly as the fewest moving parts required for your actual first project, not the platform with the shortest feature list.
Systeme.io vs Kit: practical decision framework
Start with systeme.io if you need funnels, email follow-up, automation, and course or product delivery together.
Start with Kit if newsletter publishing, subscriber growth, forms, landing pages, and creator-focused email monetization are your main priorities.
Stay on the free plan first in either case. Build one real workflow, test it end to end, and identify the specific limit that would justify paying.
This approach prevents you from choosing a platform based on features you may never use.
Our recommendation for Creator Tool Bench readers
For the type of beginner online-business workflow we focus on — a lead magnet, automated follow-up, a simple funnel, and eventually a digital offer — systeme.io is the first platform we would evaluate. We have also tested that journey ourselves rather than relying only on documentation.
Kit becomes especially compelling when the business is more clearly newsletter-first and audience size is a bigger priority than a dedicated all-in-one funnel stack.
The right choice is therefore less about “which platform is better?” and more about “what is the first complete journey I need to build?” If neither option fits, compare more tools in our Best Systeme.io Alternatives in 2026 guide.
