Systeme.io can be started for $0, and the free plan is unusually usable for a small creator business. The key question is not whether you should pay immediately, but which limit will force your first upgrade.

In this guide, we break down the current Free, Startup, Webinar, and Unlimited plans, explain the limits that matter in practice, and show when an upgrade is actually justified. Prices and limits can change, so use this as a dated snapshot and confirm the official pricing page before buying.

Systeme.io pricing at a glance

Plan Monthly Annual billing Contacts Best fit
Free $0 $0 2,000 Testing a first funnel, lead magnet, or course
Startup $17/month $170/year 5,000 A growing solo creator who needs more funnels and automation
Webinar $47/month $470/year 10,000 A larger list or evergreen-webinar strategy
Unlimited $97/month $970/year Unlimited A business that wants to remove most core platform limits

The annual prices above equal ten months of the monthly rate, which is how systeme.io presents its “2 months free” annual-billing offer. Do not treat an annual plan as automatically cheaper for you: it only saves money if you are confident you will keep using the platform for the year.

What you get on the Free plan

The Free plan is more than a short trial. According to systeme.io’s current public pricing table, it includes up to 2,000 contacts and unlimited email sending, plus a small but functional allowance across funnels, automations, courses, blogs, and communities.

Key published Free-plan limits include:

  • 2,000 contacts
  • Unlimited emails sent
  • 1 email campaign
  • 1 automation rule
  • 1 workflow
  • 3 sales funnels
  • 15 funnel steps
  • 1 custom domain
  • 1 course
  • 1 blog
  • 1 community
  • 1 A/B test
  • 1 order bump and 1 one-click upsell
  • 0% systeme.io transaction fee

That is enough to test a real beginner workflow: publish an opt-in page, deliver a lead magnet, send follow-up emails, and connect the journey to a simple offer. We use systeme.io for the Creator Tool Bench checklist signup and nurture flow, so our recommendation is to prove that small journey before paying for more capacity.

If you are building a lead magnet first, our walkthrough on how to deliver a free PDF automatically after email signup shows the practical setup.

The Free plan is generous, but the limits are concentrated

The headline “2,000 contacts and unlimited emails” can make the Free plan look almost unlimited. It is not. The constraints appear elsewhere.

For example, one automation rule and one workflow can become restrictive before you reach 2,000 contacts. A creator may want one sequence for a lead magnet, another for buyers, another for abandoned checkout follow-up, and tags for different interests. The audience limit may still be comfortable while the workflow limit is already getting in the way.

This is why we would not upgrade merely because a paid plan looks more professional. Upgrade when you can name the exact limit that is blocking a useful workflow.

Startup: the practical first paid plan

Startup is currently listed at $17 per month or $170 per year. Its biggest value is not one flashy feature. It expands several of the limits that a small business is likely to hit first.

Limit Free Startup
Contacts 2,000 5,000
Email campaigns 1 10
Automation rules 1 10
Workflows 1 5
Sales funnels 3 10
Funnel steps 15 50
Custom domains 1 3
Courses 1 5

For many solo creators, this is the plan to evaluate first when the free account becomes genuinely cramped. You can separate multiple lead magnets, offers, or audience journeys without jumping directly to a high monthly bill.

A sensible trigger for upgrading is something concrete such as: “I need a second active nurture workflow,” “I need more than three funnels,” or “my contact list is approaching 2,000.” Those are operational reasons. “I might need it later” is not.

Webinar: pay for scale and evergreen webinars

Webinar is listed at $47 per month or $470 per year. The public pricing table raises the contact allowance to 10,000, expands campaigns, automation rules, workflows, funnels, domains, courses, blogs, and communities, and adds evergreen webinars.

The current pricing page lists 10 evergreen webinars on the Webinar plan, while the Free and Startup plans list zero. Systeme.io’s funnel documentation also states that the evergreen-webinar funnel type is available on Webinar and Unlimited plans.

That means Webinar should not be viewed simply as “Startup with more contacts.” It becomes relevant when an automated webinar is part of your actual acquisition or sales process.

If you are not running webinars and your current limits still fit, paying $47 because the plan name sounds more advanced is difficult to justify.

Unlimited: remove most capacity planning

The Unlimited plan is currently $97 per month or $970 per year. The public comparison table lists unlimited contacts and unlimited allowances for many of the core items that are capped on lower tiers, including email campaigns, automation rules, workflows, funnels, funnel steps, custom domains, courses, communities, and evergreen webinars.

This plan makes more sense when the cost of managing limits is becoming more expensive than the subscription itself. For example, a business with multiple offers, many funnels, several domains, and a large contact base may value the simplicity of not repeatedly checking account caps.

For a beginner with one lead magnet and one offer, Unlimited is usually solving problems you do not yet have.

Unlimited emails does not mean every cost is zero

Systeme.io currently advertises unlimited email sending across all plans and a 0% systeme.io transaction fee. Those are meaningful pricing points, but they should not be read as “selling online has no other costs.”

Payment processors can charge their own fees. Your domain, taxes, advertising, design tools, and other services may also cost money. A zero platform transaction fee only describes the fee charged by systeme.io itself.

If you are planning to sell a course, read our guide to selling an online course without monthly fees for a fuller explanation of the costs that can still exist around a free platform.

Monthly or annual: which billing option makes sense?

Systeme.io currently prices annual billing at the equivalent of ten monthly payments:

  • Startup: $17 monthly or $170 annually
  • Webinar: $47 monthly or $470 annually
  • Unlimited: $97 monthly or $970 annually

If you know you will use the same paid tier for twelve months, annual billing lowers the effective cost. If you are still testing your offer, monthly billing preserves flexibility even though the total annualized cost is higher.

We would not lock into an annual plan simply to collect a discount before you have validated the workflow that the plan is supposed to support.

When should you upgrade from Free?

Use a limit-based rule instead of a calendar-based rule. Consider upgrading when one of these becomes true:

  • Your contact list is approaching 2,000 and you still want to keep those contacts active.
  • You need more than one automation rule or workflow for real campaigns.
  • You have more than three useful funnels to operate.
  • You need more campaigns, domains, courses, blogs, or communities than the Free plan allows.
  • You need evergreen webinars.
  • The time you spend working around a limit now costs more than the paid plan.

Do not upgrade just because you published your first landing page. A free account is most valuable when you use it to discover what your business actually needs.

A simple plan-selection framework

Choose Free if you are validating one small creator journey and can stay within the published limits.

Choose Startup if your project is working and you need more automation, funnels, campaigns, domains, or contacts without a large jump in price.

Choose Webinar if evergreen webinars are part of the plan or you need its larger mid-tier limits.

Choose Unlimited when your business has enough moving parts that repeatedly planning around limits is no longer worth the effort.

This framework is intentionally conservative. Software should earn its place by removing a real bottleneck.

One pricing-page inconsistency worth checking

At the time of our review, systeme.io’s detailed comparison table lists 500 students on the Free plan and unlimited students on the paid tiers, while a separate “All plans include” section on the same pricing page says “Unlimited students.” Because those two pieces of official page copy are not perfectly aligned, we would verify the student limit shown in your account or current checkout before making a plan decision based on that specific number.

This does not affect the contact, funnel, automation, or published plan-price figures above, but it is a good reminder to confirm any limit that is critical to your launch.

How systeme.io pricing compares with alternatives

Price only makes sense in context. If your project is mostly a newsletter, a specialized email platform may fit better even if systeme.io includes more types of tools. If you need funnels, email follow-up, and course delivery in one account, the bundle can reduce the number of separate subscriptions you need.

Our recommendation for beginners

Start with the Free plan and build one complete journey before paying: visitor → signup → promised resource or email → clear next step.

Once that works, look at your actual account limits. If a specific cap is blocking the next useful step, Startup is the first paid tier we would evaluate. Move to Webinar or Unlimited because your workflow requires them—not because you assume a more expensive plan will produce better results.

Does systeme.io charge transaction fees?

The current systeme.io pricing table lists a 0% systeme.io transaction fee. Payment processors and other services can still charge their own fees.

For a beginner who is still validating a funnel or lead magnet, we would start with Free. Upgrade only when a specific plan limit blocks a workflow you actually need.
